The exhibition was launched with an Artists Alice in Wonderland inspired tea party where artists did a presentation of their journals breaking down the process behind their artwork.
The afternoon tea was followed with a cupcake dressing competition, with the winning prize a pedicure at local beauty spa Serenity Day Spa in Murray Street. The public can vote for the best dressed cupcake via the Sunset Framing & Gallery Facebook and Instagram pages.
By voting, it will also put them in the running for a chance to win a pedicure at Serenity Day Spa. Voting closes at the end of the exhibition on November 27.
Now in its fourth year, this unique project showcases art journals from creatives living in our region. From beginners to professionals who work in multiple arts disciplines.
This year the optional theme was Resilience, to highlight the changes made to the project this year due to lockdowns and COVID restrictions.
Drawn From Here was originally created by Katherine Appleby with assistance from Cherie Morton, who established the project and exhibition to unearth hidden talent and unite creative locals.
"Displaying art journals, rather than finished pieces, allows us to see deeper into the creative life and process of each artist, each telling a different story and sharing a unique experience," Ms Appleby said.
The hosting of the exhibition has now been handed over to two local businesses with Sunset Framing & Gallery being the major sponsor of the project from its conception by donating exhibition space and the day to day management. It has also become a financial sponsor and permanent host.
The second business to come on board is Reimagined Images, donating time on social media and web management, digitizing artwork for promotion and creating image content for the website. Reimagined Images also sponsored the Tea Party opening and cupcake dressing competition prizes.
"The afternoon was such a delight, hearing directly from the artists about the process behind their journals is always fascinating. It has been such a pleasure to watch the artists connect and grow in not only their art but also in the connection and support of each other over the years this project has been running," Ms Morton said.
"This project and exhibition personifies so much of what Sunset Gallery has always stood for. We are truly honoured that Katherine has entrusted us to host and manage it, we hope over the years we can do her proud and really grow the whole project honouring what it is all about."
A People's Choice Award will also invite votes for the duration of the exhibition with the winning artist receiving a lovely gift from Cut Loose Hair salon at Lighthouse Beach.
Visitors to the exhibition are also encouraged to create a single art page to put on display in a specially assigned community display area, these pages will be combined and bound into one single community art journal that will be retained at Sunset Framing & Gallery as part of the permanent Art Journal library that is available any time for visitors to look through. This will be extended for a further week following the exhibition.
Drawn From Here is an annual event. Organisers are currently taking expressions of interest for next year's exhibition.
