Wauchope-Bonny Hills Surf Life Saving Club backed up their worst race of the day with their best to claim a second-place finish at Freshwater Beach on Saturday.

After taking on water all the way out to the cans and all the way back, the club's under-23 men's crew snuck into the final.
They then beat everyone else except Palm Beach in the final, including a South Curl Curl team that featured former teammate Tyler Hyde.
Sweep Steve Monaghan said it was an encouraging start to their 2021/2022 surf life saving season.
"We managed to scrape into the final against some very good crews that included Australian contenders and current medal holders," he said.
"However we did beat South Curl Curl and Tyler which was sweet; the boys let him know about that."
It wasn't all smooth rowing for the club with a couple of first-place and fourth-place finishes in the heats along with a couple of testing moments.
"In the race before the final I practiced my swearing ... the wheels totally fell off," Monaghan said.
"But we got rid of the rot in the race before the final because we must have just scraped in by a countback."
The North Coast Surfboat Series starts this weekend at Woolgoolga with round one and two.
