Participants will have the chance to meet like-minded individuals for 10 one-to-one conversations about climate action and resilience in the Hastings.

HHH project lead and CCA member Sarah Mollard said the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) is a time to think global and act local.

"This event is a great opportunity to network, learn about ways you can get involved in climate action locally, or pitch your idea for how we can work locally to respond to the climate emergency," Ms Mollard said.

The event will be held on Thursday, November 11, from 5.15pm to 7pm at Settlers Inn, 101 Hastings River Drive, Port Macquarie. Light refreshments are included, and attendees are invited to purchase their own drinks. Persons under 18 years of age are welcomed with a supervising adult.

Lynda McNeill, CCA spokesperson, said the speed networking event will an opportunity for knowledge and skill sharing relevant to climate change.

"Many people have been following events at the Glasgow Climate Summit (COP26) and see that now is the time to be actively looking to increase engagement and awareness with local climate related groups and initiatives," she said.

"CCA is particularly interested in renewable energy, reducing the use of fossil fuels and preserving our forests as means of local action to mitigate climate change."

Kate Medcalf, HHH coordinator, said the group has been working successfully with the Hastings community in climate change adaptation and resilience for over a year now.

"The idea for this session arose from a series of HHH-led community conversations in October 2021, about how to support mental health in the context of climate change. We're looking forward to seeing where to and what partnerships and initiatives evolve as a result of the evening," she said.

The HHH Project by the Port Macquarie-Hastings Sustainability Network has been named a recipient of the NSW government, Department of Planning, Industry and Environment "Increasing Resilience to Climate Change" Community Grant.

The health stream of the project will involve collaboration between local doctors, nurses and allied health professionals with the HHH team to deliver local education on the relationship between climate change and health, upskill the medical workforce in responding to the health impacts of extreme weather events, and explore how sustainability measures can be implemented in hospitals and medical facilities.
