Federal Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan has announced the winner of his Facebook competition awarding one deserving Cowper school child with a giant flag that once flew proudly in Parliament House.
Mr Conaghan found the impressive flag during his recent office move and wanted it to find a home truly deserving of its history.
The competition, promoted on his official Facebook page, called out to Cowper school children to answer the question; 'Tell us why the Australian Flag is important to you'.
The successful winner was Maddison Coble, aged 8, from Telegraph Public School who submitted a beautifully read video, taken by mum from her kitchen table at home.
Maddison said: "The Australian Flag is important to me because it represents our country, and when our school is rebuilt we will need a new flag" after which she proudly proclaimed with a grin "and my school is Telegraph Point Public School."
Mr Conaghan responded with a dedicated video of his own, congratulating Maddison on her entry.
"Firstly, I wanted to thank every school child that took the time to write, draw and read out the reasons why the Australian Flag is important to them," Mr Conaghan said.
"Every entry was wonderful and it was a tough decision to select a winner. Congratulations to Maddison Coble for your video representing Telegraph Point Public School.
"Beautifully read, Maddison and I couldn't agree with you more. Telegraph Point Public School is so deserving of this flag, and I can't wait to see it fly proudly above the new building."
Telegraph Point Public School was left devastated by the floods which all but wiped out the campus earlier this year, which has left it teaching from temporary demountable buildings since May.
The flag will be flown once the new build has been completed.
