Over the last 12 months, we've shown strength, resilience, innovation, and the true Aussie spirit in the Port Macquarie Hastings, despite another difficult year.
While we've all soldiered through, we all know someone who stands out and has inspired others - whether it be through their achievements, their studies, volunteer roles or community involvement.
The Australia Day Awards provide an opportunity for us to shine the spotlight on those inspiring Australians who have gone above and beyond to make a difference in our community.
Without these dedicated and passionate people, our community would lose the spirit that makes our region a wonderful place to live in... our people, our mateship, our culture, and giving everyone from all walks of life a fair go.
I'm sure we all know an unsung hero in our community, that throughout floods, and the pandemic, after we had already been through drought and bushfires, showed up each day with a smile on their face, ready to make a difference and provide energy and inspiration to those around them.
At Council, we want to know their names. We want to celebrate and recognise their contributions to our community.
So after a difficult year, let's spread some positivity! Head to Council's website and fill out a nomination form to put someone you know forward for an award. On-line nominations are being accepted for Young Citizen of the Year, Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Community Group of the Year, and Environmental Citizen of the Year.
The 2022 award recipients will be announced as part of Council's Australia Day program, which is being planned for Wauchope.
After last year's ceremony, when we all gathered at the Glasshouse, it'll be great for us to come together in one place to reflect on the year that was.
Each year, we'll rotate the awards between Laurieton, Port Macquarie, and Wauchope so we can continue to celebrate our community united. I can't wait to see you all there!
