In April Ana's husband Sven was seriously injured in a car accident.

Sven had been travelling to the Nabiac markets to sell honey made on the couple's Johns River property.

"Someone on the opposite side of the highway crossed the medium strip and hit him," Ms Martin said.

Ms Martin arrived at the scene of the accident to find emergency services working to free Sven from the wreckage of his vehicle.

"After it I had this feeling of 'how much worse could it have been?'"

Ever since the accident Ms Martin has focused her energy into establishing a positive mindset to benefit her mental health.

"Sven's accident has been the catalyst for me to say 'I need to do this now'", she said.

Ms Martin believes people tend to delay seeking what they want most out of life.

"They might say 'we'll do this when we retire, or in three years time when we have more time'," she said.

"Then something like this (Sven's accident) happens and you think 'how do you know you're going to get the opportunity to do everything you hope to?'"

Ms Martin said it's important people give themselves time to stop and think about what they want the most.

She's challenged herself to slow down and practice mindfulness everyday.

Ms Martin has launched a project called Your Mindful Year on the website Kickstarter and is encouraging others to join her.

Ms Martin has identified aspects of her life which she is grateful for, but also some which need to change since starting the mindfulness journey.

"For me I'm constantly reminding myself of how lucky we are," she said.

"But I also know we need a better work and life balance because as much as we love what we do as beekeepers, sometimes it feels like that's all we do,"

"So we're trying to take more time off and do more enjoyable things."

Sven's recovery is a long process as he still has pain and restriction of movement.
