The Stingers haven't had a great deal of success in the twenty20 competition over the years which has inspired Mid North Coast Cricket Council chairman of selectors Aaron Hagenbach to think outside the box.

Before the Stingers start their quest in early December, each player who has expressed an interest in being selected will have at least three games to state their case for final selection.

It's what six teams - the Huntsmans, Scorpions, Fire Ants, Rays, Wasps and Hornets - have been created for.

Darren Bourke and Jak Dobbyns (Hornets), Josh Hyde and Jesse Schmidt (Rays), Jared Humphreys and Zak Jones (Wasps), Todd Giddy and Jarrod Prosper (Fire Ants), Harry Clarke and Tom Burley (Scorpions) and Ben de Braun and Jason Dodd (Huntsmans) will be the co-captains of their respective sides.

They will face off against each other over three-straight weeks in November with each team compiled similar to the AFL Draft system.

"It's basically like you did in the school yard, but it's done so it's even," Hagenbach said.

"In terms of selection procedure, I've set up a table and it has the six teams where, for example, the Hornets will get draft pick one, 12, 15, 23, 26, 34, 37, 48, 51 and 59.

"The Fire Ants will get two, 10, 13, 24 etc."

After each team has selected their first 12 players, Hagenbach will then consult the co-captains to balance each team out to ensure their 15-player squad is made up of an even amount of batsmen and bowlers.

"We'll probably have a situation where teams will realise they're very batsman or bowler-heavy so that's where we will sit down with the co-captains and balance their squad out," Hagenbach said.

"But the process allows you to see these players under pressure perform against good quality sides. Three games is enough to give people the opportunity to show they're either in form or have the ability because form and confidence matters.

"You want these guys rolling into these games with runs under their belt or feeling confident when they go into it."

Teams will also have the ability to "parachute" in a marquee player on the weeks when they may be in town but otherwise work out of town.

"We don't want to put any impediments in to stop those top players from coming in because the dream would be to get the really, really top players," Hagenbach said.

Oxley Oval and Wayne Richards Park in Port Macquarie will be the two venues used, with Oxley Oval set to utilise the lights in November.

"Pink ball and coloured uniforms under lights ... that's ideal for what we want to do," Hagenbach said.
