Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science student Ryan Mies is in his second year of study at the School of Dentistry and Medical Sciences.
Mr Mies received the Charles Sturt Campus Services Financial Assistance Scholarship which has helped fund his accommodation on the Port Macquarie campus.
The financial support has made the interstate move easier for Mr Mies, given the high demand for rental properties in Port Macquarie.
"It's a very competitive market, it's tough," Mr Mies said.
"If I didn't get the scholarship, I definitely would've reconsidered my options," he said.
"Getting the scholarship has taken a lot of the pressure off."
Mr Mies works casually at Rebel Sport but many of his friends have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic and are struggling to find and maintain work.
The scholarship has taken the pressure off having to work so many hours to fund his accommodation.
"The financial support has saved me at least 10 hours a week, which I am now able to put back into the books," he said.
Mr Mies is grateful the scholarship enables him to remain on campus for another year.
"I absolutely love living at the Port Macquarie campus," he said.
"Having immediate access to course facilities such as the library, reliable internet and my peers has been invaluable to get the best marks I can."
Mr Mies lives on campus with two best friends and he said they've been great support to him.
Charles Sturt University Foundation ceo Sarah Ansell said Ryan is a shining example of the boost scholarships can give to students.
"Our campus facilities are world-class, so we strive to give each student as much access as possible to reach their potential," she said.
There are currently more than 150 scholarships on offer at Charles Sturt University. A full list of scholarships is available on the Charles Sturt website.
