It's the clean slate the club needs as they attempt to once again climb the A-League ladder.
New coach Arthur Papas is likely to deploy the Port Saints junior in a more forward role in midfield when the 2021/2022 season kicks off.
With it will be a new up-tempo style of play that shapes as being pleasing on the eye.
"Already in the pre-season we can see we're set in our ways and how we want to play football," Thurgate said.
"The way that Arthur likes to play is free-flowing and I don't have a real set position for anywhere in the midfield. It's where I can make those forward runs and support the ball is where I'll be used effectively hopefully."
I need to add that to my game ... more goals and more numbers in the front third and hopefully we can have a successful season on top of that.
- Angus Thurgate
The Port Macquarie product has set himself the goal of finding the back of the net more often this season.
"I need to add that to my game ... more goals and more numbers in the front third and hopefully we can have a successful season on top of that," he said.
Thurgate however, admitted the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming season and when they would play their next game - competitive or otherwise - was still frustrating.
"It is annoying not knowing when we'll play a friendly, but we've been doing it for over a year now and we need to keep training and be ready for whatever really," he said.
"Nothing is surprising us anymore so as long as we stay ready and prepare ourselves by training really hard and pushing each other at training we should be good.
"Once we start clicking and playing the football that Arthur wants, it should be an exciting Newcastle Jets team."
"You can see how we want to approach the games both with and without the ball so I hope that clear mindset and clear way of playing will set us up for a successful season."
