THOSE frightful grown-out roots and shaggy haircuts are no more.
Port Macquarie hairdressers and barbers have been run off their feet as they try to keep up with the mad dash of locals booking appointments as lockdown restrictions are lifted.
Owner of Barbers on Murray Eddie Smith said he will be doing a number of late nights to keep up with appointments.
"It's like the Christmas week times three. It's insanely busy," he said.
"We got in here at about 5.30am on Saturday and by 5.50am we had nine people waiting outside and it's been like that each day since."
Mr Smith said he expects it to remain busy over the next few weeks.
"We have the school holidays coming up as well and that will mean more appointments for us," he said.
The team at Barbers on Murray have been working 10 to 12 hour days, with clients waiting outside for their appointments.
"We're only able to have five clients inside at one time so we have put chairs outside for people who are waiting."
Mr Smith said they have a number of regular clients that come in every two to three weeks for a haircut.
"Getting out and getting your haircut makes you feel fresh and happy. Being in lockdown for a month put all of that on hold and I think people are happy to be able to get their hair done," he said.
"Everyone is being really patient and I encourage people to keep doing the right thing to stay safe and check in when entering a business."
Owner of Blossom Hair Tracy Kaczorowski said the past couple of days have been "insane."
"As soon as there was news that the lockdown was going to be lifted, we had calls coming in from people wanting to book appointments," she said.
"I didn't get out of the salon until around 6pm on Saturday and we will be having a few late nights this week as well."
Tracy took over ownership of the business only 10 months ago and said restrictions and the recent lockdown has been a bit of a challenge.
"It has made it a bit more difficult, but I'm glad we have been able to reopen," she said.
"It's also great for the community because getting your hair done makes you feel a bit better when you're stressed and it's important for people to be able to feel pride in their appearance."
