Unlike Lisa Intemann (Port News, 16 August), I found nothing laughable about the letter from Mr Stewart regarding water fluoridation.

I did, however, find her response wryly amusing. She offers to compare published evidence with him, however she misses the point entirely.
I doubt that Mr Stewart holds himself up to be an expert in the field of water fluoridation. Rather, I suspect that like me, he trusts that the best medical and dental minds in Australia and globally (in organisations such as the NHMRC, Australian Dental Association, Australian Medical Asociation and WHO) will use the best quality research data to make their recommendations.
That all these organisations and many others support water fluoridation for its overwhelming health benefits and lack of risks is good enough for me.
Cr Intemann goes on to state that councillors "had no involvement in deciding to stop fluoridation" and even threatens anyone who claims otherwise with libel! Yet the proposed poll question asks "Would you prefer that Council stops adding fluoride...to the public water supply?"
Given that council has NOT been adding fluoride to our water - doesn't this question imply that it is a council decision?
Cr Intemann you are an elected member of our local government and answerable to the community you serve.
