Mr Donato said it was these types of decisions which exposed the NSW Government as being more invested with city-dwellers than their country counterparts.

"Our limited Pfizer supplies are still needed out here where many people await their first dose, just as they need them in Sydney," he wrote in a recent letter-to-the-editor.

"The Premier and her Deputy need to work on accessing additional vaccines for the entire State, and not pilfer existing regional vaccine supplies."

The Western NSW Local Health District Chief Executive Scott McLachlan has defended the state government decision, calling for compassion and understanding as Sydney's COVID crisis continues to worsen.

"If this were a bushfire in our region we know that we'd have fire brigades coming from all parts of the state to try and put out the fire. This is our time to help out and play a role in helping out the people of Sydney," he said Friday.

Mr McLachlan added that every week, 9,000 new doses of Pfizer were still coming into private and general practices, as well as the Aboriginal Medical Services and respiratory clinics across Western NSW.

Additionally, there was still plenty of AstraZeneca available and, where possible, local health authorities were encouraging people to opt for that, emphasising it "as a safe and very effective" vaccine.

On Saturday, NSW Health confirmed another person had died from the virus - this time a man in his 60s - while 210 new cases of COVID-19 had been detected.
