Footings for the new shade were poured on July 22.
The next stage of the council's master plan for the reserve includes improved pathways, picnic shelters, seating, bike racks, outdoor shower and bins, way finding signage, a shade sail over the existing playground and landscaping.
Wendy and Tallow Kelly look forward to the new additions.
"They have done a good job with the playground, it's really nice. Tallow is quite happy to just look at the digger today," she said.
"We come down here quite often and it's a great little park now that it's done up.
"The kids definitely need shade come summer time when it gets a bit warmer."
Construction has already been completed for the playground, footpaths, amenities and skate park. Future works include Ocean Drive side parking, road improvements and upgrades to the Bundella Avenue side of the foreshore.
The works are funded with $280,000 from the Australian Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
