About 11.40am on Monday, July 12, two 15-year-old boys were walking west along William Street in Port Macquarie, towards the intersection of Munster Street, when they were approached by a man unknown to them.
The man allegedly verbally abused the pair before the teenagers walked away towards Murray Street.
A short time later, the man and the teenagers spoke again at the intersection of Hay and William Street before the man allegedly grabbed one of the boy's shoulders and pushed him to the ground.
The teens were assisted by two passers-by as the man walked west towards Horton Street.
The boys attended Port Macquarie Police Station and reported the incident.
As investigations continue, Mid North Coast police have released an image of a man on their Facebook page who may be able to assist with their inquiries.
He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, with an average build, and dark brown hair slicked to one side. He was seen wearing jeans, slides, a tan jacket and a satchel bag over his shoulder.
Anyone who may have seen or heard the incident or anyone who may have information that could assist investigators is urged to contact Port Macquarie Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
