Renewable energy project Energy Forever (EF) is offering funding for sustainability initiatives in the Port Macquarie-Hastings local government area (LGA) through a second round of grants.

The community-based group is encouraging applications from non-profit entities keen to create positive sustainable outcomes in our area.

Spokesperson, Kerri-ann Jones, said energy generated from solar installations at two Port Macquarie not-for-profit organisation premises had enabled EF to create its grants program.

"Energy Forever is a community success story," she said. "These solar panels generate clean energy using host organisations, which buy the clean power at a discounted rate. This, in turn, generates funds for local community-driven projects.

"The grants program will provide funding support for local individuals or organisations to undertake projects that increase the uptake of renewable energy, reduce waste, care for the environment or meet ecologically sustainable development principles."

Applications are welcome for funding up to $5000 in this second round to help individuals or organisations transform their ideas for sustainability into action

An assessment panel, led by Ms Jones, with two external appointees will determine the successful applicants.

Last year, community garden group The Lost Plot, and Farm Gate Tours were the grateful recipients of the inaugural grants program.

EF is also keen to increase its capacity to generate solar energy in the LGA.

Birpai Local Aboriginal Land Council and St Agnes' Parish have had EF solar panels installed at no cost at their respective premises, reducing their carbon footprint and their electricity bills in the process.

Other not-for-profit organisations (with premises suitable for solar panel installation) interested in becoming host sites are invited to register an expression of interest with EF.
