Egg throw world record
A new world record for throwing and catching a raw egg was set in Port Macquarie yesterday morning by two Police officers. They are First Class Constables Paul Lassau and John Clarke.
The former threw an egg 203 feet 9 inches, where it was caught unbroken by John Clarke. The distance is 43 feet nine inches greater than the world record of 160 feet, set recently in Canada.
Three dozen eggs were broken and the two contestants spattered with egg yolk before the great record-breaking throw was achieved, while a crowd of 250 spectators ringed the Oxley sports oval to cheer the contestants as they made their attempt.
The referee was the deputy mayor, Ald C.C. Adams who measured off 180 feet with a surveyor's tape measure, before the first throw.
The first successful throw and catch by the police team exceeded the marked section by seven feet 9 inches to give the pair a world record throw.
Ten throws later they achieved 203 feet 9 inches.
Drive-In licence refused
An application for a drive-in theatre licence in Port Macquarie has been rejected by the Theatre and Films Licensing Commission.
The applicant was Mr Eric Rewell, of Alstonville, who conducts successful drive-in theatres at Lismore and Grafton.
The deputy mayor, Ald C.C. Adams, said he regretted the Commission's decision, as a drive-in theatre would add to the entertainment available to Port Macquarie's ever-growing number of holiday visitors.
