The previously undefeated Beechwood were handed their first loss in front of a Long Flat home crowd on Saturday, July 10 as a part of the weekend's Hastings League matches.
The traditional Bain Cup competition was born in 1920 after clubs moved away from rugby union.
In the weekend's other matches, Comboyne defeated South West Rocks Marlins 30-26, while Lower Macleay defeated Lake Cathie 28-6. The Laurieton versus Kendall match was postponed late due to wet weather.
League chief executive Geoff Connor said the Bain Cup at Long Flat was the highlight of the round.
"We would normally play the Bain Cup at the beginning of the year but it was called off until we could get the two teams leading the competition at the halfway point of the season," he said.
"Beechwood went in as the top team and Long Flat were second. It was a huge crowd even though the weather wasn't kind and Beechwood were beaten for the first time this season.
"Beechwood have hit the ground running from the start of the season but it shows the other clubs are catching up now."
"Jason Costigan reached a 350 game milestone during the match, he also played 100 games at Wauchope. He plays well, he's a good clubman and he wants to play with his two sons, which is good to see."
Mr Connor said the postponed match between Laurieton and Kendall will be re-organised.
"It's only one game so teams now have 10 to 14 days to reschedule but that isn't set in concrete and we will work with the clubs on that. Usually it would be held on Tuesday night," he said.
"It has happened previously over the years, it's not uncommon."
