Supported by the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veteran Mindfulness Australia engaged Mr Bentley to add his photography course to their suite of online services.
"The process of identifying, framing and recording a photograph of any scene or product requires a focused mindset," Mr Bentley said.
"This offers significant benefits to the veterans, especially in reaching a state of attention and awareness."
Laura Bailey from Veteran Mindfulness Australia said the course designed by Mr Bentley teaches the participants how to be present, observe and take in their surroundings.
"This course improves awareness and presence in any given moment, which is key to healthy mindfulness," Ms Bailey said.
"Mindfulness helps our veterans achieve mental clarity and a calm state of mind."
With the photographic creative process being similar to the design process applied in graphic design, Mr Bentley added a TAFE NSW Certificate IV in Design qualification to his existing certificate and diploma qualifications in photography.
"The industry-level skills I learnt in these courses has enabled me to build a portfolio of commercial clients," Mr Bentley said.
With Mr Bentley's photography course considered as welfare support work, the Australian Government's Job Outlook predicts employment in this area will grow, with an estimated increase from just over 65,000 in 2019 to over 80,000 by 2024.
