When it comes to the Hattah Desert Race, Billy had been unsuccessful in two previous attempts mainly due to bad luck.
On July 3 in Victoria he trumped Byron Dennis and Liam Dennis in the Junior Big Wheel race to claim victory by an impressive one minute and six seconds over his nearest rival.
Father Daniel said it was a race his son competed in purely because "he loves it".
"We've done it twice before and haven't had that much success; he's crashed and had a bit of bad luck, but this year he was super pumped and had good preparation," Mr Hargy said.
"He's fit as a fiddle, was ready to roll and he showed it. He came out of the blocks flying and after the first lap he had 34 seconds on them. He put a couple of hot laps down and got a good lead and rode his own race for the rest of the day."
Hargy completed six laps of the 23-kilometre course with an average of time of 17 and a half minutes in under two hours.
His focus now is on motorcycle racing rather than motocross which he competed in ever since he could ride a bike.
"It's (motorcycle racing) a different setup for the bike; he was doing 140ks an hour instead of the general 100. It suited the conditions and long straights; it was a big, open, flowy track," Mr Hargy said.
"He smoked it."
