The use of the Service NSW QR code check-in system is mandatory at all workplaces and retail businesses in the state from Monday [July 12].

Romer Locks brought in the QR code check-in system a fortnight ago.

Business owner Gavin Romer said the system's introduction was pretty easy to organise.

"The QR code doesn't worry us too much at this stage," he said.

The QR code is located at the front of the Port Macquarie industrial area business and on the counter.

Mr Romer said customers, nine times out of 10, checked in before they entered the business, rather than at the counter, as everyone was familiar with the process.

"For us, to put it up in the window was not too much of a drama," he said.

Coastal Music business partner Geoff Kearns agrees with the widespread use of the QR code check-in system.

"If it keeps us safe, I'm happy with it," he said.

Coastal Music put the QR code system in place at the shop entry about a month ago.

Mr Kearns said most people were pretty compliant with the system.

Business NSW regional manager Kellon Beard reminded businesses about the mandatory Service NSW COVID safe check-in use from Monday.

"Make sure the QR code is prominently displayed at the front of the shop," he said.

Mr Beard also stressed the need for businesses to follow their COVID safety plans.

Minister for Digital and Customer Service Victor Dominello said expanding the COVID check-in mandate would give NSW Health contact tracers real-time access to QR code data from a greater number of venues including supermarkets, retail stores, gyms and offices.

Businesses will need to display the Service NSW QR code and take reasonable steps to ensure people entering their premises check-in using the Service NSW QR codes or digital sign-in sheet.

Hospitality businesses will now need to extend the use of the Service NSW COVID-safe check-in to all customers including takeaway orders.

Businesses such as hospitality and hairdressers previously using the Service NSW QR code will also need to ensure staff and visitors such as maintenance workers and delivery drivers check-in.
