Football clubs across the Mid North Coast and North Coast have been invited to join the Coastal Premier League, as it expands from ten teams into twelve next season.
The CPL covers the most senior men's football league on the New South Wales mid and north coasts at present after it was commenced in 2020.
Camden Haven Redbacks president Tamara Burns said the club will consider the option and it will be discussed at training with players.
"Nominating would be a whole club decision also involving the committee. The players are ultimately the ones who have to commit to the decision," Ms Burns said.
"The Redbacks have never nominated for the CPL, although we've nominated and participated in the FFA Cup.
"The committee can have an opinion and guide the players on where we would like to see the club to go but ultimately it's the players decision on how we move forward."
Current representatives include five teams from the Coffs Harbour area and five teams from the mid-north coast, taking in Port Macquarie, Taree and Kempsey.
Football Mid North Coast chairman Mike Parsons said CPL has been overwhelmingly received positively by players, spectators and media since its arrival last year.
"The standard of the inter-zone competition is driving the interest from the new clubs. More players want to compete at a higher level each week," he said.
"Even with the possible expansion of Coastal Premier League, lower-level competitions will remain vibrant and robust, providing both a path to CPL or acting as a purely social and local competition.
"Football in northern New South Wales has bounced back following the worst of the global pandemic in 2020, with registration numbers beating last year and, in some cases, the year before.
"The game has been buoyed by Australia and New Zealand winning the right to host the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2023.
"It received a further boost recently with the announcement by broadcaster CBS Viacom that it would invest heavily in broadcasting and promoting the game via its Network Ten free-to-air channels and Paramount Plus online service."
Clubs have until August 31 this year to apply to join the competition and stand for selection by the relevant committees. It's anticipated there would be one team from the mid-north coast and one from the north coast, which takes in the Coffs and Clarence areas.
