The three-day event, which concludes today with surf finals, has exceeded expectations despite the weather with hundreds of festival-goers converging on the beachside music and markets precinct for a laid back weekend to raise money for people across the region experiencing homelessness or disadvantage.
Erin Denham, who pulled the event together with the help of her M.A.D crew, said the event was about bringing the community together and consolidating the work of Make A Difference Port Macquarie through their already established food van, coffee van and Orange Sky laundry services.
Ride The Wave aims to replicate Newcastle's popular Surf Fest, putting Port Macquarie as a key regional location for competition.
"We've been up at Willawarrin after the bushfires and then out to the North Shore and Camden Haven after the floods," Erin said.
"While our focus is on the disadvantaged, homeless and vulnerable in our community, our reach is now much more broad after the last 18 months."
