Play in the record-breaking tournament was held up each day because of overnight rain, but fine mild days and perfect courts greeted the 107 players taking part.

From a local point of view, the success of Ann Quinn (formerly Marshall) in the women's singles championship was an outstanding feature of the tennis. It was an extremely popular win as Ann played her way through a strong field to reach the final, and then in a 3-set thriller defeated last year's open championship winner, Miss T. Van Haren.

Bruce Pengilly was another local player to record a good performance; Bruce did will to reach the final of the junior boys' singles championship. He was beaten in the final by Gosford junior, M. Edmonds.

The son of a well-known local family and his bride are touring the Gold Coast, following their marriage in the Catholic Church of St. Agnes on June 12. Leslie Murphy, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. Murphy of Port Macquarie, was married to Miss Ruth Ryan, with 120 guests attending the reception at the Surf Club.

The wedding group made a pretty scene with the bride in a full-length Empire-line gown of white snakeskin satin, featuring bell sleeves trimmed with swan's down.

The bride's flower-satin pillbox hat had flowers hanging from the crown, which also held the beautifully embroidered veil. She carried a white bouquet of gladioli, hyacinths and carnations.

The bride was attended by Debbie Paice and Judy Cooper; Sharon Ryan was flower girl, Garry McCoy page boy. Best man was Darryl Denham, cousin of the groom, and groomsman was Pat Roach of Telegraph Point.

Mr. and Mrs. Murray Turnham were married recently in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Port Macquarie. The bride was formerly Gail Geary, the daughter of Mrs. Lucy Frost of Port Macquarie. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Des Turnham from Bingara.

The bride was attended by her sister, Mrs. Jill Withers, and Miss Helen Smith. The flower girls were Ann-Maree Withers and Rosalind Turnham. The best man was Geoff Lewis, and groomsman Geoff Turnham. Master Scott Withers was the page boy.

The most joyous occasion in Port Macquarie for many a day was provided on Saturday and Sunday of last week by the Young World Singers, a widely travelled group brought here by the Baptist Church folk.

The group commanded quite an interest in Horton Street on Saturday morning and the marvellous tempo of their voices thrilled a capacity audience in the Ritz Theatre on Sunday afternoon.

In Wauchope's Community Hall on Saturday night they also gave an outstanding performance.
