The Government will also commit an extra $32.5 million over four years to expand the Staying Home Leaving Violence (SHLV) program across the State to assist victim survivors.
These commitments in the NSW Budget will help to tackle the scourge of domestic violence - one of the most difficult problems our communities face.
The funding announced will:
- boost frontline specialist domestic, family and sexual violence services;
- help victim-survivors escape violent homes;
- support victim-survivors stay safe at home;
- hold perpetrators to account; and
- raise awareness about domestic and family violence services.
The NSW Government funding will also go towards trialling initiatives during the transition to the next National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children.
Tackling Plastics and Waste
Plastics like single-use lightweight bags, cotton-buds, straws and stirrers will be phased out under the NSW Government's comprehensive plastics plan and waste strategy.
More than $356 million will be invested over five years to implement the nation leading plans to protect the environment and promote recycling.
The more we consume, the more waste we have and the greater the impact on our environment - that is why we must act now to ensure we can manage our waste into the future.
As part of our plans, an education campaign will be rolled out to provide local households with clear information on how to get onboard with the new waste programs, and learn how to properly dispose of our food and organic waste.
We will also support businesses to transition to new products before the phase-outs come into effect and exemptions will be available for members of the community who rely on particular single-use plastics for disability or health needs.
