The funds will go towards supporting local community groups such as Endeavour Mental Health Recovery Clubhouse, Lifelife Mid Coast, Hastings Education Fund and the Salvation Army emergency service team.
The Rotary Club of Port Macquarie event proved the ongoing popularity of good quality second-hand books.
Book sale coordinator Bob Cleland said the sale went better than expected, given the club sells books each week at its second-hand book store.
"People were pleased, almost surprised, at the quality of books that we had on our tables," he said.
"People were very positive and very pleased with the quality and diverse range of books."
The Rotary Club of Port Macquarie staged its annual book sale at Panthers Port Macquarie from Friday, June 11 to Sunday, June 13.
More than 30,000 books were on offer across categories from fiction to Australiana, biographies, cooking, poetry, gardening, religion and self-help.
The book sale recorded a strong day on Sunday [June 13] when a bag of books cost just $10.
Mr Cleland thanked Panthers Port Macquarie for its "fantastic support" of the event.
Port Macquarie's Carissa Rumble and her daughters Isla, Scarlett and Audrey headed to the book sale on its first day. They targeted the children's books.
"My girls just love books and every room of our house has books in it," Mrs Rumble said.
The family reads every day.
"It is good for their vocabulary and early language skills," Mrs Rumble said.
The Rotary Club of Port Macquarie opens a second-hand book store at the Rotary Community Centre, 198 Hastings River Drive, from 9am to 1pm on Saturdays and it also opens Sundays in the school holidays.
Donations of good quality books are welcome.
