Inspector Martin Burke confirmed police were investigating the circumstances of the incident.
He said they believed the occupier of the premises became aware the power had been shut off, and as a result, food had been spoiled.
Inspector Burke urged anyone who saw or heard anything in the vicinity of Blackbutt Drive between 8am and 2.45pm on Monday, June 7 or leading up to that time to contact Port Macquarie police on 6583 0199 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
He said part of the investigation would involve the canvassing of neighbouring areas and reviewing CCTV footage.
About 18 pallets of frozen food was lost including beans, onions, capsicum, potato, ice cream, fish, chicken and desserts.
The Saving Place gave away food deemed safe for consumption in the chiller area but the food in the freezer could not be salvaged.
