Supporters cheered and heartfelt congratulations flowed as the ride culminated at Bain Park on Monday [June 7].
Rod Everingham cycled from Cameron Corner, where the NSW, Queensland and South Australian borders meet, to Wauchope in a fundraiser for Bear Cottage and The Kids' Cancer Project.
Co-riders Jeremy Bradley and Noel Templeman cycled most of the way. The group was joined by others for sections of the ride.
A small support crew was there at every turn.
The fundraising ride was in memory of Mr Everingham's grandson Patrick Coombes who died from an inoperable brain tumour seven years ago.
Money raised will be equally split between Bear Cottage and The Kids' Cancer Project.
Bear Cottage, the only children's hospice in NSW, is dedicated to caring for children with life-limiting conditions, while The Kids' Cancer Project is a national charity supporting childhood cancer research.
The 2021 fundraiser was Mr Everingham's third ride to raise money to help sick kids.
"It is just something I wanted to do and my family wanted to do for a long time," he said.
Mr Everingham said he felt fantastic, but a little bit tired, after the ride.
"The first four or five days of the ride were very, very, very hard," he said.
"We were riding through very deep sand and there were corrugations and stones.
"I've got a little sticker of Pat on my bike, and every time I might feel it tough going, or if I have a buster or something, I get up and look at Pat's face and say I'm not doing it tough, Pat did it tough."
Mr Everingham thanked everyone who supported the ride and he paid tribute to the "unbelievable support" from his family including sons Josh and Matt and daughter Emma.
Generous donations were received during the ride and on arrival at Bain Park.
People can donate to Pedal for Pat at the online fundraising site mycause or directly to the fundraiser's bank account - BSB 082-900, account number 83-252-7817.
