Our existing cultural program and assets are embraced by the community and attract many visitors.
Work is continuing to develop the cultural sector.
A draft Cultural Plan 2021-2025 identifies the overarching vision and specific goals, strategies and actions to drive and support cultural development within our region.
The community can have its say on the draft plan, which is on exhibition until June 20.
The plan outlines the resources needed to ensure maintenance and development of the area's cultural and heritage resources; help develop a thriving creative industry; and encourage, support and enable participation in artistic expression and cultural experimentation to inspire innovation and a sense of wonder.
Cr Rob Turner said a lot of meetings and quality time and effort went into the draft plan.
The council's Cultural Steering Group members and staff developed the document.
Cr Geoff Hawkins praised how the Cultural Steering Group interfaced with the Economic Development Steering Group and the Town Centre Master Plan Sub-Committee.
"There is a cross-pollination amongst the community members which has nothing to do with the council or councillors organising it or orchestrating it," he said.
"It's really interesting and invigorating and energising."
The council noted the enthusiastic participation and commitment by the Cultural Steering Group in development of the draft Cultural Plan 2021-2025.
A report detailing the public submissions received during the exhibition period is due to come before the June council meeting.
