Lake Cathie resident Veneka 'Neikz' Jones has made it a personal mission to help the residents of Brigadoon Holiday Park for the past eight weeks.

She began assisting residents after the March floods by making and delivering sandwiches, but has moved on to ordering building materials, organising supplies and making welfare checks.

Ms Jones, who is on leave from her job as Youth Advocacy NSW secretary, said she saw people North Haven struggling physically and mentally.

"I started off just bringing food down and then took over logistics. I've done everything from shovelling faeces out of cabins to removing debris, doing welfare checks through the night, tying down tarps, sourcing materials and appliances," she said.

"I saw people struggling, saw some people in tears at their situation and you get emotionally attached to the people here.

"I thought I could help make things better for people here because they aren't insured and they have just had three metres of water go through their houses.

"I felt that there was a lot of attention and support for Port Macquarie, but coming down the highway I felt Brigadoon was the forgotten zone. Down here we only had the people we could rope in."

Ms Jones said the focus is now on accessing building materials and qualified tradesmen to help rebuild homes at the park.

Brigadoon Park resident Jamie Forsyth said the help of community volunteers is invaluable.

"Everything is getting fixed slowly but there is not a lot of life yet because people haven't been able to move back yet," he said.

"The floods connected everyone and showed that it is a little gated community with people from all walks of life.

"The managers have done an amazing job despite the challenges and have stuck in it right through. They have taken the bull by the horns."

Brigadoon park resident Rebecca Ohlsen said park residents owe a lot to the volunteers who have supported them every step of the way through the flood recovery.

"If it wasn't for local volunteers every day like Neikz, Karen Sparkes and Trina De, everyone would be stuck."
