The group is holding a morning tea, neighbourhood walk and red carpet fashion parade to raise money for the Cancer Council from 9.30am on Thursday, May 27.

Australia's Biggest Morning Tea raises funds towards vital cancer research, support services, prevention programs and advocacy each year. The dachshund group has already raised almost $400.

PMDG spokesperson and founder Jean Ballands said around 30 people and 18 dachshunds are likely to attend.

"There will be sandwiches, heaps of games such as heads and tails. We would love to raised $1000 from the event, a market stall and sales of dachshund neckerchiefs on the day," she said.

"It's just for fun and all proceeds to the Cancer Council.

"Members of the group have sewn items of clothing and will come dressed to match their dachshund. We will put out a red carpet for the fashion parade and organised a judge."

Mrs Ballands said the event was last held in 2019 and postponed in 2020 but there will be a special surprise for dachshund owners this year.

"Dachshunds are a bit of a (unique) dog, you have to take care of their backs and their weight. But they are clever and they respond really well if you interact with them," she said.

"They melt and bring out the humanity in people. That's why we do what we do."
