The home team put in a goal during the first half to secure a 1-0 blockbuster at the Dixie Park Soccer Fields on Saturday, May 15.
Ben Oakley surged up the sideline for United before crossing the ball directly infront of the Sawtell keeper. Teammate Matthew Bale took the opportunity to flick a goal in the bottom left corner, securing the only successful shot of the match.
Sawtell coach Joe Skrtic said his side had recovered from the first half and put in some close misses in the second.
"It was a game of two halves I think. I think we were the better team in the second, but they had one over us in the first," he said.
"The first half we absorbed a lot of pressure but they were just getting in between the lines and creating some good chances. We only started reacting to that in the second half.
"We had one shot hit the post, kicked off the line (in the second half). We created a lot more chances in the second half but just weren't clinical enough at the goal mouth.
"Overall I was happy with my boys, I felt we could have won it in the second half or a draw would have been a fair result. Unfortunately we didn't and that's football."
Mr Skrtic said the team needs to be a bit tougher in defence and stay on its feet.
"This week at training we will be looking at more combination play and working between the lines in the mid-field," he said.
