Federal member for Lyne, Dr David Gillespie, joined mayor Peta Pinson and Community Arts volunteers to celebrate nearly $14,000 in funding for live music events.
"The funding will support a series of live events showcasing original music from local musicians and Australian touring providing an immediate to the Australian live music industry," Dr Gillespie said.
"The Australian music industry is facing particular pressures in light of the severe impacts of COVID-19. That is why we are pleased to continue to support local venues to increase performance opportunities and showcase Australian talent.
"Round two of the program is funding venues in every state and territory, from pubs in the remote outback, to clubs and theatres in major capital cities, assisting them to re-open as restrictions on public gatherings and live music performance are lifted."
Mayor Peta Pinson said the funding will provide critical support for local live music venue and support local communities to reconnect and economies to re-emerge from the pandemic.
"This funding is recognition of the wonderful work the Wauchope Community Arts Council do in our community; I know there are many people across the region who can't wait to get back to a gig," Cr Pinson said.
The next Wauchope Arts gig is on May 21 featuring four luminaries of the Australian jazz scene - Mike Nock, Hamish Stuart, Julien Wilson and Jonathan Zwartz. They gathered in late 2018 with the intention of playing just one gig, but the chemistry was immediately evident. Additional Sydney shows and two days recording at Sony Studios followed, with the album The World the result.
On June 12, they will host a fascinating evening of music and words from music industry veteran Jeff Lang. He has released a book/memoir about his three decades on the road and will be a part of a Q and A at his Wauchope gig.
Hussy Hicks are back on June 25 while country music star Felicity Urquhart and Josh Cunningham (The Waifs) make their Wauchope Arts debut in August.
The Australian Music Industry Package will support a wide range of businesses, individuals and bands across the country.
