The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has issued a warning for the New South Wales east coast from the Mid North Coast north to the Queensland border.
Senior forecaster for the BoM, Jake Phillips, said activity may kick off early in the morning which is unusual for this time of the year.

The highest risks for the north-east region of the state on Tuesday include heavy rainfall, large hail and damaging wind gusts.
Mr Phillips said the high humidity and a powerful upper level system will combine to produce this short-lived system.
He said this sort of storm activity is common in summer but does not normally persist into late autumn.
Rain may linger into Wednesday and Thursday but residents in the warning area are urged to be prepared for storm activity, Mr Phillips said.
Last week on the Mid North Coast, an intense and isolated weather system produced hail and a series of water spouts off the coast between Old Bar and Harrington, south of Port Macquarie.
