There is much to celebrate this Sunday as baseball kicks off at Blackbutt Park, Wauchope with junior baseball relaunching after many years and registrations exceeding all expectation.
All four baseball clubs will launch their strongest teams at the one park on the same day.
The inaugural Ron and Pam Dures perpetual shield will be unveiled and competed for between the Wauchope Giants and the Middle Rock Mariners.
It will be a celebration of 42 years of baseball in the Hastings with the highlight the A-grade game between the association's oldest club - the Wauchope Giants - and the newest club, the Middle Rock Mariners.
The late Ron Dures, who launched the Wauchope Giants 42 years ago, passed away last year, the day after the local 2020 baseball grand final.
This Sunday, the association honour him and wife Pam's contribution to the enduring legacy of the game by launching the shield.
While Ron was the founding member of the Giants, his two sons, his two grandsons and grandson-in-law, will all compete against the Giants while representing the newest club in the Middle Rock Mariners.
All the action starts this Sunday from 10am with the B-grade, followed by the juniors at 12.15pm and then the A-grade at 1.30pm.
