Saint Peter's Primary School from Port Macquarie were too strong in the under-12 division, going through undefeated in clashes with teams from Hastings Public School and St Agnes.

NRL game development officer Ben Stewart said it was encouraging to see the schools field a number of teams.

"It was a good day; a lot of kids were trying rugby league for the first time which was great to see," he said.

"Hopefully they enjoyed the day and will convert into weekend rugby league. We had a washout in term one, so it was great to see them running around."

Saint Peter's will now go into the mix to represent the Northern NSW region at the All-Schools finals in Sydney on September 14.

"We pick one school from the Northern NSW region which attends our gala days and supports our programs throughout the year," Stewart said.

"It's a bit of a reward."

The next primary schools rugby league tournament will be the PSSA's statewide Classic Shield which will be held on June 9 at Woods Street in Port Macquarie.

The high schools from around the Hastings in the under-13, under-15 and open divisions will take to the field on May 25.

"Winners of each pool advance to the regional final at Port Macquarie on June 17," Stewart said.
