The Rotary Club of Port Macquarie West, in conjunction with the Rotary Clubs of District 9650, will contest the world record title for the Longest Washing Line of Socks with all funds raised going to four outstanding community service organisations - Endeavour Club House; YP Space; Soldier On; and Hastings Education Fund.

To celebrate Rotary's centenary in Australia, Rotary clubs in District 9650 will construct a whopping washing line more than 10,000 metres long.

On the washing line, they plan to peg over 100,000 socks to claim the world record title.

The current Guinness World Record was set on the 17 May 2014, outside the small village of Halverde, Germany. The record was set with a 6,066 metre long washing line with 69,152 socks pegged to it.

Rotary is hoping the Port Macquarie-Hastings community will sock it to that record on June 4 and 5 on the large field adjacent to the Sovereign Place Town Centre where the clothes line will be erected.

Rotary is already well on its way to reaching its goal of 100,000 socks, with 50,000 already collected and counted.

Sock donation collection points are located at IGAs at Sovereign Place Town Centre, Hastings Co-op Wauchope, and Gordon Street Port Macquarie; Coles at Innes Lake, Hayward Street Port Macquarie, Emerald Downs and Laurieton; and Woolworths at Lake Cathie and Lakewood.

Lewis Land Group kicked off the tally with a $15,000 donation and a promise to double it if the world record attempt reached its $100,000 fundraising goal.
