Comboyne Road, from Hartys Creek to Stennetts Road, remains closed due to extensive damage after a deluge of rain fell in the area.

Ten or more significant landslides have cut off access along the mountain at several points.

The detour is via Lorne Road.

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council's director of infrastructure Dan Bylsma said the council had undertaken geotechnical assessments of the damage which highlighted it would be possible to get traffic through with three single lane closures along the road.

The council is working to be in a position to open up single lane access within the next three weeks.

"There's still lots of work to be done, and while these are all short-term outcomes, the longer term works will likely result in further controlled closures for up to a month at a time over the next two years," Mr Bylsma said.

"We understand the detour via Lorne Road is not ideal, but we have completed works to better cater for the heavier traffic, as we work to progress a timeline for the restoration of Comboyne Road."

Comboyne Community Association secretary Leonie Stevens said Lorne Road was a hazard.

A petition calls on Port Macquarie-Hastings Council for a safety management plan to ensure the safety of traffic on Lorne Road's 14 kilometre dirt section.

The petition is available at the Comboyne Community Centre.

Mrs Stevens said the impact of the Comboyne Road closure was mostly on the elderly.

"It [the road closure] has fractured the community a little bit in that we can't freely do what we used to do and a lot of people's independence is being interfered with."

The 2016 census showed just over 450 people lived at Comboyne.

Comboyne Road is the main access to the village.

"We are a close-knit community so we come together to support each other in times like this," Mrs Stevens said.

She said the council was doing the best it could, while the community was helping those who could not get off the mountain due to Lorne Road safety concerns.

Comboyne Five Star Supermarket owner Govind Rabadiya is personally collecting more deliveries for the store as a result of the Comboyne Road closure.

He said the Lorne Road detour added extra travel time.

"People are avoiding travel if they don't need to," Mr Rabadiya said.

"I'm trying to help them out if they need something."
