Custom cake making for wedding and birthday cakes has already begun at the club after Miss Nellie's Cafe was inundated with floodwater from the Camden Haven River.

Kendall Tennis Club offered the commercial kitchen of the club to Jenelle while a food catering van called 'Travelling Millie' is being organised.

"In the short term we will be able to trade, which is good from a financial and mental health point of view. It's good having that purpose to come to work," she said.

"The first thing I cooked in the club oven was scones, they came out perfect and it's a bit of a confidence boost after all that's happened.

"Pulling apart the cafe building was part of the grieving process, but having somewhere to cook is my passion and what I love to do. When the physical elements around you are ripped away, that passion remains and has to be channelled into something.

"I had lost my confidence after the floods and even after years of cooking I was nervous that maybe it wouldn't work if I wasn't in my own kitchen.

"I realise the magic doesn't necessarily come from the walls in the building, it comes from within me."

The family-owned cafe lost all its contents, equipment, food, utensils, furniture, keepsakes and even grandma's handwritten recipes during the recent flooding.

The tennis club has provided equipment, storage and refrigeration for Jenelle to use for commercial baking.

"It's good on a temporary basis because I don't know what is going to happen with the cafe building," she said.

"We are waiting to hear if it's going to survive because structurally we are not sure if it will have to be demolished. It's a 100 year old piece of history and that would be quite a sad end for it.

"I want to thank the community and our regulars for the support, the love and for everything they have shown us. We aren't closing up and going home, we want to be back there and we're fighting to make a comeback.

"That site is Miss Nellie's and that is what I'll rebuild on."

A GoFundMe page to help repair and rebuild Miss Nellie's Cafe has topped $34,000. Visitors from Canada, New York, France, Ireland, UK and New Zealand have been among those to reach out.
