Luke Townsend, Travis Pascoe and Roan Whiteman all found the back of the net inside the first 50 minutes before Saints held off the fast-finishing visitors.
Coach John Goodman admitted it was a slightly "hair-raising" experience.
"We didn't run out of puff, we probably panicked a little bit and then didn't use our composure," he said.
"We tried to pull up stumps a little bit early which probably wasn't a good idea."
While Saints survived to fight another day, they made too many mistakes.
While the goals they conceded were slightly fortuitous, the Bellingen side punished them.
"The boys all had their good moments and unfortunately they all had their bad moments too," the coach said.
"But it's good to play a game."
