That was one of the few aspects coach Mick Grass was critical of in last weekend's 3-3 draw with Adamstown in Newcastle. This was Mid Coast's first game for the year after the opening round clash was postponed due to flooding.
"We tended to drop our guard a bit after we scored and let Adamstown back into it,'' he said.
"We need to stay focused. We probably scored enough goals to win the game last week, but we just need to keep that concentration.''
Mid Coast led on three occasions in the encounter, including 3-2 with about 15 minutes remaining. Grass said his side had the opportunities to close out the match, but failed to take advantage.
Coast went into last weekend's clash with a limited preparation due to rain, flooding and closed fields. Grass said they the players started to tire late in the contest, which was understandable.
"We had a couple of good sessions this week and with every game we play our condition will improve,'' he said.
Warners Bay were grand finalists last season and had an 8-1 win over New Lambton last weekend. Newcastle Olympic thumped Warners Bay 5-1 in the opening round.
"They were a good team last year although I don't know how many of those players they've kept,'' Grass said.
"But they have an experienced coach and they'll be up for the game. We'll find out how strong they are on Sunday.''
The first grade fixture will start at 3.40.
Mid Coast will play all home games at the Taree Zone Field this year.
