The workers were participating in the immediate flood response but have since re-evaluated their efforts and re-established the construction site to upgrade the Port Macquarie intersection.
Monday (April 12) was their first day back at the intersection.
The project involves building a roundabout at the intersection of Owen and Home streets.
The upgrade will also deliver new pavement, new kerbs, new sections of footpath, new medians, new stormwater pit and pipes, new water main crossings, new line marking and signs.
There will be slower speeds through the intersection and formal crossing points for pedestrians.
Progress to date includes water main relocation work, preparation works for stormwater systems and preparation works to install new kerbs.
The intersection is closed to traffic during the construction with detours in place.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council received a $440,000 grant under Transport for NSW's Safer Roads Program for the intersection upgrade.
The project has been designed to improve the safety of vehicles and pedestrians.
The work, which started in February, is expected to be complete in mid to late June.
