But work to reopen the Oxley Highway is progressing after more than 70 landslips occurred between Yarras and Walcha.

Ten of the landslips are major.

Transport for NSW continues to assess the damage and clear the roadway as a priority following heavy rain in March.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said some of these landslips had been from below the roadway, which added to the challenge for repair crews to access the sites.

"About 30 to 40 workers have been on site taking advantage of the better conditions, focusing on carrying out temporary works which will allow the highway to progressively reopen to traffic with a single lane, alternating flow," the spokesperson said.

"This is expected to take at least two to three months, weather permitting, before we can safely allow motorists along this part of the highway."

As the larger slopes will require detailed investigation and design, Transport for NSW expects they will take several months to repair.
