Leonie Green thanked Ben and Bec Maher, Donna Hanley and her family, Steve and Kylie Hunt, and Gavin and Amanda Thompson.

"This little group of people are selfless and worked tirelessly," she said.

They provided support to fellow North Shore residents ranging from welfare checks to ferrying people and supplies across the river, supplying fuel, repairing damage, shovelling mud and emptying fridges after the power went out.

"When we were cut off from the world, they kept the world spinning for us on the North Shore," Mrs Green said.

Mrs Green evacuated the North Shore on Friday before the last ferry.

Water inundated the bottom level of Mrs Green's home.

The North Shore resident of 22 years saw the flood damage firsthand when she returned thanks to Australian Defence Force personnel.

Floodwater went as high as the roof of her 4WD.

The downstairs fridge, water pumps, washing machine, barbecues and power tools were among the items to take the brunt of the floodwater.

The Port Macquarie Sharks helped to clean-up the resulting mess as part of their contribution to the flood recovery.

Mrs Green said she was so thankful for all the assistance she had received.

"I'm overwhelmed with gratitude and I'm overwhelmed at the community spirit," she said.

"It is the most amazing feeling of support. I'm grateful, I'm thankful, I'm overwhelmed and I'm tearful."

Mrs Green said so many people had lost much more than her.

Tony McKern chose to remain on the North Shore as floodwater rose and eight days without electricity followed.

When Mr McKern fell through a rotten board on his deck, he looked after the wounds.

Then North Shore's Donna Hanley put her nursing expertise into action to regularly dress the wounds.

A doctor also visited Mr McKern.

"I'm being looked after by professionals," he said.
