Mr Sloane decided it was time for his long hair to go and he backed a worthwhile cause in the process.
The TAFE NSW teacher says he liked his long hair and he will miss it.
The Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave raises vital funds to support the growing number of Australians diagnosed with blood cancer including leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other related blood disorders.
Almost 50 Australians are diagnosed with blood cancer every day.
The Leukaemia Foundation's latest Blood Cancer in Australia report confirms in just 15 years, by 2035, this number will more than double to 100 people every day.
"Leukaemia is insidious," Mr Sloane said.
"It can affect any family, any age and most of us know someone who has been impacted by cancer."
Mr Sloane said the sponsorship response had been gobsmacking.
His fundraising total has topped $2000 after setting out with a $500 target.

Leukaemia Foundation general manager of supporters Rachael Lance said money raised through the World's Greatest Shave was critical to ensure all Australians diagnosed with blood cancer across the country, no matter where they lived, could be supported.
