It was devastating news for her family and circle of supportive friends.
"We were suddenly confronted with our new reality of a long and emotional journey of huge surgery, followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment," Tayla Paige said.
Jenny's biggest emotional struggle with her treatment has been the loss of her hair.
In a move of solidarity, eight family members, relatives and friends - Liam, Sam, Jarrod, Kyle, Rees, James, Declan and Jack - will shave their heads at an event on Saturday March 6 at SeaSalt Café and Restaurant in Port Macquarie.
All funds raised on the day will be donated to Cancer Council NSW and Mid North Coast Cancer Institute.
Although the fundraising event has already sold out, you can catch it live-streamed on their facebook page www.facebook.com/headshaveformum.
You can also make a donation here. The brave head shave crew has already raised $5,000.
"Every donation, prayer and kind word are so appreciated and means the world to us," Tayla said.
Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, a raffle is also being held in conjunction with the head shave. You can buy tickets here.
The event's donation will go towards vital cancer research as well as supporting families in the Lower Mid North Coast through the provision of Home Help, Transport to Treatment for cancer patients and providing pro bono financial and legal assistance and counselling.
