The Laurieton Police Station on Bold Street does not offer 24/7 staffing.

Laurieton Cellars owner Ann Smith said the community could provide volunteers if additional officers or a full-time administration officer were not available.

"Camden Haven is definitely going through the high part of the crime cycle," Mrs Smith said. "Even an admin officer stationed at the police station would be fine.

"Someone knowledgeable, someone to answer the phone, direct people or radio if needed. Anything has got to be better than what we have at the moment.

"There has been volunteer staff used in Taree previously. That type of operation could be ideal to get things moving here.

Laurieton Cellars was attacked for the second time in three months on January 30. The liquor store suffered damage after a number of persons in hoodies and masks broke in about 3.30am.

Police investigated a spate of vandalism and break and enters at Camden Haven businesses late last year.

Mid North Coast Police District Inspector Stuart Campbell said spikes in crime can result from illegal drugs or transient criminals.

"Crime has been quite sporadic and we have tasked plain clothes police as well as uniformed patrols in those areas," he said.

"If the public see any suspicious activity during the day or night, we recommend they write down registrations, descriptions of the people and call us.

Laurieton and Wauchope Police Stations cover both areas with officers working varying shifts to cover as many hours as possible.

Laurieton Police Station had a $1.5 million upgrade which was unveiled last year.

A police van dock was added to the exterior of the station, which has an interior connection to the charge room.

The addition of the charge room means police officers no longer have to travel to Port Macquarie to carry out the process of charging a person with a crime, saving them valuable time.

The upgrades to the technology within the police station mean officers can effectively carry out their work onsite, while also ensuring their safety within the building.

The facility also has the ability to accommodate additional officers if required.

Laurieton Hotel assistant manager Donna Hamilton said residents are more concerned after a caravan was nearly stolen and number plates taken recently.

"We're putting extra people on so that staff aren't leaving on their own at night, because you never know who is out on the streets," Ms Hamilton said.
