Some other parts of the Mid-North Coast could be hit with a 100-millimetre drenching over the next three days.

Weatherzone meteorologist Graeme Brittain said weather models indicated the heaviest rainfall would be over Thursday and Friday.

"We've got a coastal trough and moist onshore winds which are affecting the region and that's going to produce heavy falls of rain for Port Macquarie and the wider Mid-North Coast area," he said.

"On Saturday you might be lucky to step outside without a rain jacket and be okay because only showers are indicated and they may not fall over the touch football fields."

Sunday shapes up as a different story with a different system forecast to dump more rain on an already soggy region with a low to form over the Tasman Sea which will increase wind and rainfall.

"It's uncertain how close that system will get to the coast but it's expected the winds will increase from a southerly direction and some rainfall, but it doesn't look as heavy as Thursday or Friday," Mr Brittain said.

"Five to 15 millimetres are possible on Sunday, but that's more subject to change than the forecast for Thursday and Friday."

Beaches are expected to be closed in coming days as the swell increases in size to between two and four metres.

"There are fairly decent-sized waves expected with this system, particularly on Sunday," Mr Brittain said.

"On Thursday and Friday the eastern-facing beaches will be most prone to the waves, whereas on Sunday it will be more south-east facing beaches will cop the biggest waves due to a shift in swell direction.

"The primary swell on Sunday will come from a southerly direction, but it depends on the position of the low.

"The most likely scenario is for the low to sit north-east of Port Macquarie and that will send a south-east swell towards Port Macquarie on Sunday."

Further showers are predicted for the next 10 days.

"It's not looking like we'll see a significant drying spell in that timeframe I'm afraid, but it's a good opportunity to get ahead on any series you're watching at the moment on Netflix."
