The foreshore reserve skate park has been given a completion date of early 2021 and works have already installed ledges, banks, ramps and stairs at the site next to Lake Cathie.

Construction is being undertaken by Convic Pty Ltd, who were awarded the contract on July 15, 2020. The finished work is envisioned to have a skate bowl, steps, rails, boxes and a pump track.

Lake Cathie Skate Park Project president Mick Fullbrook said there would be a competition to celebrate the grand opening of the park and the opportunity to hold tournaments there in future.

"The construction is going amazing and we are expecting the park to be ready at late to mid-March, then council come in and do the landscaping," Mr Fullbrook said.

"The designs haven't changed and this is going to bring so many more people to this area. This will be the only bowl between Newcastle and Coffs Harbor, the good skaters will come for the bowl and others for the pump track.

"It's only been 20 years in the making and the new committee has been amazing. The Lake Cathie-Bonny Hills Lions Club has jumped on board to support and they are sensational."

The $613,000 project was made possible with $301,000 from a state government Stronger Communities Fund grant awarded to the Lake Cathie-Bonny Hills Lions Club and $312,000 contributed by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
