The groups will receive funds in return for their help thanks to one of the event's major sponsors.
Port Macquarie Running Festival race director Kevin Chilvers said they wanted the community to be involved with the 2021 event.
He said it was about finding some of the great causes, getting them on board as volunteers and providing some funds in return.
Those groups will bring energy to the event too.
"If we get the community on board, we will be able to provide more support for the participants as well," Mr Chilvers said.
Port Macquarie Running Festival community liaison officer David Stark said it was about giving back to community groups.
He said the volunteer involvement also provided a better atmosphere along the course with more people supporting the runners and cheering them on.
Volunteer jobs range from marshalling roles to helping out on drinks stations, providing support in the finishing area and helping pack up after the event.
Friends of Mrs York's Garden, Marine Rescue Port Macquarie, Self Seen and Tour de Cure are already on board.
Marine Rescue Port Macquarie unit commander Greg Davies said the members were happy to support community events.
Port Macquarie Running Festival will be staged on March 6 and 7 under COVID-safe conditions.
The running festival organisers are also keen to get a volunteer group on board to assist with packing up and returning the Town Green to its pristine state after the two-day event.
The running festival's final day coincides with Clean Up Australia Day.
Port Macquarie Running Festival expects to attract around 2500 participants in 2021.
Community groups interested in providing volunteers should email info@runfest.com.au, while individuals keen to assist should go to the Port Macquarie Running Festival website and follow the volunteer link.
All volunteers will receive a free shirt and there will be prizes up for grabs.
