The 93-year-old was recognised for service to the community through a range of roles.

Those roles stretch from Sydney to Port Macquarie and Lake Cathie.

Mrs Cowper said the OAM accolade was quite an honour.

"My involvement just rolls on from one thing to another," she said.

Mrs Cowper said it was just her nature to be involved in the community.

She is not one to sit back and let others do the work as is evidenced by a long list of contributions over the years.

That includes various roles with Twentieth Century Fox, Enfield Swimming and Life Saving Club and RSL Youth Club Swimming.

She continued giving back to the community after moving to Port Macquarie about 30 years ago.

Mrs Cowper's volunteer contribution in Port Macquarie over the years includes organising the Armistice Day Band Concert and serving on the committee for the Anzac Day ceremony at Greenmeadows Village from 2008 to 2015.

Mrs Cowper was president of Hastings Valley Torchbearers on two occasions, secretary from 2000 to 2005, a committee member for a decade and honoured with NSW Torchbearers life membership.

The Lake Cathie Bowling Club Committee was among her community involvement for many years and she was the patron of Hastings Valley District Bowling Group between 2008 and 2012.

Other community involvement has included being a member of Port Macquarie Probus Club and Port Macquarie Uniting Church Angels Group.

Mrs Cowper contributed to Sea Acres Rainforest Centre, Better Hearing and Port Macquarie Koala Hospital as a volunteer.

"I've been pretty proud to be part of all the things I've been involved in," she said.

Mrs Cowper said she made a lot of good friends through her community activities.

She retired from her community-based commitments three years ago.
